Providing expert psychotherapy and psychiatric treatment in Louisiana and Massachusetts. Dr. Pharr provides a supportive and compassionate space to be able to identify and treat the underlying causes of disruptions in mental health. Cognitive Behavioral, Psychodynamic, and mindfulness interventions are used to create lasting changes in thought patterns and behaviors. An understanding of the mind-body connections is used to examine the sources of symptoms. When medication is indicated, treatment is guided by the latest evidenced-based research to support healing in patients.
Dr. Asa Pharr
Asa Pharr, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist with extensive experience in treating mood and anxiety disorders. He earned his medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and completed his residency at the Medical University of South Carolina, where he also founded and led the MUSC Mindfulness Program. Dr. Pharr has experience teaching mind-body skills to various populations, including veterans, college students, and employees in high-stress fields. He was also involved in research on the effectiveness of mindfulness-based psychotherapy for PTSD. After operating the New Orleans Center for Mind Body Health for nearly a decade, Dr. Pharr has relocated to Bedford, Massachusetts. While he primarily resides in Massachusetts, he looks forward to returning to New Orleans annually to see patients in person.

Do you offer therapy, or only medication management?
Dr. Pharr offers both psychotherapy and medication management.
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist?
A psychiatrist has received medical (medication-based) and psychotherapy training, while a psychologist’s training is focused on psychotherapy treatment.
What should I expect during my first appointment?
The first visit is a 60-min visit in which Dr. Pharr will get to know you and provide a comprehensive mental and physical health overview.

How do I schedule an appointment?
Follow this link to the patient portal to complete the intake forms. Once the intake forms are complete Dr. Pharr will reach out to you to schedule your initial appointment.
Do you offer telepsychiatry or virtual visits?
Yes.
What is your cancellation policy?
A patient must provide 24 hours’ notice.
How long are appointments?
Initial appointments are 60 mins. Follow up appointments are either 45 or 30 mins.
Medication & Treatment
Will I have to take medication?
No. Dr. Pharr views treatment as a collaboration and interventions are based on patient’s need and comfortability.
How do you determine which medication is right for me?
Medications are usually selected based on diagnosis and symptoms that are being experienced as well as prior medication history. Dr. Pharr also offers genetic testing that can assist in selecting medications.
What should I do if I experience side effects from my medication?
Some side-effects are mild and can improve with time. If side-effects are more severe, please reach out to Dr. Pharr via the Simple Practice patient portal.
How often will I need follow-up visits for medication management?
Follow-up schedule depends on the severity of the condition but is typically one-six months.
Can I stop my medication if I feel better?
It is always your decision if you feel ready to stop medications but please consult with Dr. Pharr to discuss risks and how to do so safely.

Do you accept insurance?
No, Dr. Pharr will provide super bills to be able to submit to your insurance for out of network benefits.
What payment methods do you accept?
Credit card, Debit card, HSA, and FSA with a fee to cover processing costs and Zelle without a fee.
